Disney Research in Zurich has released a white paper (PDF) and a showreel video of their new technology DuctTake. It allows for combining and compositing of different takes into one single video…seamlessly. This has been done for over a hundred years with split screens and mattes and locked off cameras. It’s a very simple effect and a staple of trick shots done in camera. The difference with DuctTake is…it is now possible to combine and composite takes with handheld or moving cameras.
With the announcement of Adobe Premiere Pro CC, a brand new grading tool was revealed that allows editors more control right from the timeline. Lumetri Looks is a collection of presets that lives inside your Premiere Pro effects bin and supports grades created in Speedgrade as well as LUTs. Read more…

Keith Urban shot his music video “For You” on the same salt desert flats that Bandito Brothers shot the feature film “Act of Valor”. Scott Waugh directed both the film and this music video. Shane Hurlbut, ASC was the director of photography on both as well. Julien Lasseur was tasked with shooting the BTS of the filmmakers’ reunion at this epic location. Julien, a budding director, was given the golden opportunity to work with the likes of Scott, Shane and Keith. Based on my extensive editing history with Bandito Brothers and Shane…Julien asked me to cut the BTS and I very gladly accepted.
