One of the most interesting & rewarding workflow consulting gigs I have had to date was being brought in to train 70 editors at Time Warner Cable Sports (TWCS) in Los Angeles as they transitioned from Final Cut Pro 7 to Premiere Pro.
They create ALL of the on-air and web content for the Los Angeles Lakers, LA Dodgers and LA Galaxy.
They broadcast at least 5-8 shows per day and their editors work around the clock to hit deadlines.
With each show using multiple camera formats & no time for transcodes, Premiere Pro was the logical progression in their post production workflow.
Every show is cut natively in HD & exported directly for broadcast. I was brought in to make the transition as seamless as possible.
There could be no downtime. They cannot miss a deliverable that is going on the air.
Premiere Pro is so flexible & very adaptable. However, if not set up properly from the get-go, stumbling blocks can arise which results in unnecessary time & budget being wasted.
I am there to use technology to speed up a workflow vs. slow down a production during the learning process.
Every production is different. Each person & project has different preferences & requirements. Workflow is not one & done.
My goal when consulting is to get fellow editors STORYTELLING as fast as possible & remove the challenges of technology.
Until next time…
P.S. Here’s more about the experience at TWCS & the Ultimate Keyboard Layout we used.

Hey, we just shot on the RED Epic Weapon and had issues with “spanned clips”. We ended up stitching longer shots together in post production. Not fun. Do you know if they have fixed this?
Thanks!
