Dave Coulier’s POV

My dear friend, Dave Coulier, asked me to join him on the road and film his brand new Comedy Stand-up Special that will be released in the fall of 2013. I love the experience of live stand-up and the opportunity to film an entire show single-handedly was both a challenge and a joy. Dave was booked at The Improv in Tempe, Arizona…which recently underwent a 1.5 million dollar renovation and is now a state-of-art venue that seats close to 500.

I shot the show with two Canon 5Dmkii using Nikon AIS glass and a Panasonic HPX-170. I also had access to The Improv’s in-house HD video system with joystick camera controller that recorded onto a Black Magic capture deck in the control room. The General Manager Joe Newcomer gave me unlimited access from the balcony to backstage and everything in-between.

With two shows on a Saturday night, I was able to reposition cameras and get 8 different angles to edit with down the road. I look forward to setting up some mulit-cam sequences so I can edit in real-time as if I’m directing a TV show. “Camera 3! Get ready with Camera 6! Go for the wide shot! C’mon people! Keep up with me!!!”. Yes…yelling is needed when I edit myself.

Once Dave and I get to look at all the footage…we will plan our attack for the edit and get started in crafting the Comedy Special. In upcoming blogs, I will share my edit workflow and post process for the creation of Dave’s New Stand-up Special. Stay tuned!!!
