Thoughts on the future of filmmaking…

At Code Media Conference, this very question was asked.⁣

My reply was:⁣

Virtual sets. ⁣

These are not green screens but huge digital displays that when filmed look real, as if you are at that particular location.⁣

The limitations of this are: none. ⁣

You can place your actors anywhere in the universe. For actors, to be able to see the space and interact with it provides a different acting experience. There is more to play off of for the actor vs. using something like a green screen.⁣

On virtual sets, the camera has tracking & moves – it is parallaxed with digital backdrops so it will look real. If the camera just moves and the background doesn’t move, it’s not convincing.

The interaction between the virtual sets and the tracking on the camera give an authentic realization of a scene.⁣

You are also seeing the result in the moment instead of weeks later in an edit bay when you might realize something wasn’t captured optimally. ⁣

Some more information on the virtual set concept⁣:

Looking forward to seeing how this further develops.

Until next time…
