Keith Urban “For You”:
5 Tips for Music Video Behind The Scenes

On 21, May 2013 | 6 Comments | In Editing | By vashi

Keith Urban "For You"

Keith Urban shot his music video “For You” on the same salt desert flats that Bandito Brothers shot the feature film “Act of Valor”. Scott Waugh directed both the film and this music video. Shane Hurlbut, ASC was the director of photography on both as well. Julien Lasseur was tasked with shooting the BTS of the filmmakers’ reunion at this epic location. Julien, a budding director, was given the golden opportunity to work with the likes of Scott, Shane and Keith. Based on my extensive editing history with Bandito Brothers and Shane…Julien asked me to cut the BTS and I very gladly accepted.

NAB 2013 Interview with Vashi Nedomansky:
Editing with Adobe Premiere

On 11, Apr 2013 | 6 Comments | In Editing | By vashi

Just finishing a whirlwind 4 days at NAB. I was honored to be asked by Adobe to present on their main stage and discuss my experiences cutting with Premiere Pro. It was my first NAB and overwhelmingly awesome is how I would describe it! After speaking in front of hundreds of people for a couple days…it was extra wonderful to meet many other filmmakers who until now, I only knew on the interwebz. Please enjoy my 5 minutes of rambling in the video above…

Here is the outline for my 30 minute presentation. I went with the “kitchen sink” approach and actually hit on almost all the points I laid out. Better more than not enough info! It was a sincere pleasure to get the opportunity to share my experiences with Adobe Premiere CC.

The Last Moment – Art or Exploitation?

On 20, Mar 2013 | No Comments | In Editing, Low Budget Filmmaking | By vashi

Combining image and sound to create something more than the individual parts is the definition of film editing. I chose to use vintage news footage of actual deaths and fused it with a remix of music by Jimi Hendrix and Muse. I find the result emotional, disturbing and raw. Is it art or exploitative? Beautiful or morbid? Only you can be the judge of that… NSFW

The online historical archives of British Pathé contain countless news reel films covering war, tragedies, accidents and other historic events. Some of these reports document the last moments of peoples lives. The camera does not lie. Life can be both beautiful and horrible…and sometimes these extremes intermingle in a split second.

Coney Island Fashion Shoot - ShopBop Video
I’ve had the luck and pleasure to work with many artists that have uncompromising vision…ones who create stunning images and at the same time tell compelling stories. With the revolution of DSLR cinematography and the proliferation of these cameras into the hands of the masses…everyone now has access to inexpensive technology that can rival 35mm film when used properly.

Adobe After Effects for Filmmaker

Photograph: blog.adobe.com

As an editor, I’ve had to grow an ever expanding skill set that encompasses audio, VFX, and the rapidly changing digital video formats and codecsthat I have to work with on a daily basis. At some point in every project I’ve ever done, I’ve had to use Adobe After Effects in some capacity to either solve a problem, apply a visual effect, or deliver a final asset. The beauty of After Effects is…

7 Tips for HD Color Correction and DSLR Color Correction

On 07, Jan 2012 | 5 Comments | In Editing, Uncategorized | By vashi

Color correction is just one step of the entire filmmaking process…but oh, what a difference it can make. You can take average footage and really make it pop, sing and enhance the viewing experience of your project. If you have excellent footage, then the sky is the limit. You can also make images look garish, ugly and destroy all the hard work the crew did to capture those images on the day of the shoot. The challenges and choices are many and it comes with great responsibility if you are the one applying the Color Correction and Color Grade.

Editing Shane Hurlbut: Tips, Tricks and Rules

On 01, Feb 2011 | No Comments | In Editing, Uncategorized | By vashi

The first time I met Shane was at Bandito Brothers last year, when he and the Director Po Chan asked me to edit “The Last 3 Minutes.” I had worked for the Banditos as a freelance editor for 3 years and had cut dozens of projects there, but never crossed paths with Shane. When I did get a chance to meet him, I realized that this man is a force of nature and has more enthusiasm for filmmaking and sharing his knowledge than anyone I’ve ever met. He asked me to guest blog about editing, so allow me to pull the curtain back on the workflow, mindset and process of Editing Shane…
